Albany Down

In recent years one of Ben’s biggest areas of focus has been as a member of original rock & blues band Albany Down.

He joins Paul Turley on lead guitar & lead vocals and Pete Hancock on drums, keyboard & backing vocals.

In addition to providing the driving basslines, Ben also contributes backing vocals & vocal arrangements, and his inventive use of technology has become a key part of the band’s expansive live sound: by manipulating the signal from his bass guitar he is able to emulate the tones of a rhythm guitar, almost creating a fourth, virtual member of the band. This, combined with bold backing vocal arrangements and Pete’s multi-tasking keyboard playing, add to the sonic breadth and depth of the band’s on-stage performances which belie its modest three-piece line-up.

Further to this, Ben plays keyboard, double bass and acoustic guitar as part of the band’s unplugged incarnation, in which their usual repertoire undergoes a more intimate and mellow transformation. When Covid-19 lockdowns forced the cancellation of all live performances and rehearsals, Ben turned his hand to mixing & video production, enabling the band to continue releasing virtual performances throughout the pandemic.

Ben is also an integral part of the songwriting process. The band has released four studio albums with award-winning producer Greg Haver and multi-platinum engineer Clint Murphy, the most recent having been released in September 2023.
